The Typaldos-Iakovatos Public Central Library and Museum of Lixouri is housed in the family’s two-storey mansion, built in 1866, a fine example of mid-19th-century neoclassical architecture with notable painted ceilings. The family’s heirs gave the house and its contents to the Greek state in 1963: the ground floor holds the library of about 30,000 volumes published from the 16th century onwards, and the upper floor a museum of family heirlooms and the family archive. The building is currently closed to visitors because of damage from the 2014 earthquakes.
