Privacy policy

Effective 2 November 2026

The Goat brings together what the Municipalities of Lixouri, Argostoli and Sami publish, along with a tourist guide to Kefalonia. It is not an official app of the municipalities.

No account

There is no sign-up or login. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number. Your favourites, language, chosen municipality, notification settings and day plan stay on your phone only. Deleting the app deletes them too.

Notifications

If you turn notifications on, your phone sends three things to our database: an anonymous notification token, the app language and the municipalities you follow. We use them only to send you notifications, through Expo's push notification service. When you turn notifications off in the app, the token is deleted. The database is hosted by Supabase on servers in Ireland.

The app also checks the municipality websites for new posts itself. This happens on your phone and sends nothing to us.

Location

Your location is used only when you tap "near me" on the map, to show what is close to you. It stays on your phone and we don't send it anywhere.

Microphone

The microphone listens only when you tap Goat to ask him something, and stops as soon as you finish your sentence. Your phone’s own speech recognition (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android) turns what you say into text. Goat searches with that text on your phone and it is not sent to us. We keep neither your voice nor the text.

Day plan and directions

To draw the route of a day plan, the app sends the locations of the stops (not your location) to public OpenStreetMap routing services. "Take me there" opens your phone's maps app.

Requests to the municipality

A request is prepared in your phone's email app and you send it directly to the municipality. We don't receive or store it.

Third-party content

News, events and pages load from the municipality websites. Photos come from the municipality websites, Wikimedia Commons and business websites. "Read it in English" opens the page through Google Translate. Each of these services has its own privacy policy.

What we don't do

No ads, no usage tracking, and we don't sell or share data.
